Appliance Test Intervals are set by AS/NZ 3760:2022
Here are the main intervals you should be aware of:

| Every 3 Months | Construction, Building and Demolition Sites |
| Every 6 Months | Factories, Production, Work Shops and Warehouse Locations |
| Every 12 Months | Offices & Schools, Where equipment/cord is prone to flexing or open to abuse or is in a hostile Environment. |
| Every 2 Years | Residential Types: Hotels, Residential Institutions, Motels, Boarding Houses, Halls, Hostels, Accommodations Houses and the like. |
| Every 5 Years | Server Rooms, where equipment/cord is not prone to flexing in normal use and not open to abuse and not in a hostile Environment. |
AS/NZS 3760: 2022 Standard – Table 2.4

The Australian Standard AS 3760:2022 specifies that the period between testing and tagging is based on the environment in which the appliance is located.
It’s also important to remember that some businesses may undertake their own risk assessment, meaning they might have a different test and tag frequency to the standard, which is more frequent than specified. It is, of course, absolutely fine, whereas testing less frequently is not acceptable.
Every 3 Months
Appliances in Construction, Building and Demolition Sites
Due to their sheer hostility, the most strict industries require testing every three months. These include people working on building and construction sites or demolition. Often, marine is also included in this list of harsh environments.
Every 6 Months
Appliances in Factories, workshops, places of work or repair, manufacturing, assembly, maintenance or fabrication
Every 12 Months
Offices & Schools.
Appliances in Environments where the equipment or supply flexible cord is subject to flexing in normal use OR is open to abuse OR is in a hostile environment
Every 5 Years
Server Rooms.
Appliances in Environment where the equipment or supply flexible cord is NOT subject to flexing in normal use OR is not open to abuse OR is not in a hostile environments
Every 2 Years
Appliances in Residential type areas of: hotels, residential, institutions, motels, boarding houses, halls, hostels, accommodation houses and the like
Every 6 Months
Equipment used for commercial cleaning
Prior to hire
Hire Equipment (Inspection)
Every 3 Months
Hire Equipment (Test & Tag)
Repaired, serviced and second-hand equipment
Must be Tested and Tagged After repair or service which could affect electrical safety, or on re-introduction to service
Second-hand equipment
Second-hand equipment is specifically mentioned within the intervals table.
Although, it’s now covered under the separate Standard 5761, the testing procedures remain the same as per 3760.
Essentially, there is no retest period for used equipment as it’s being sold to an end user.
The Second Hand Equipment Tags look different compared to standard test tags.
